I went cat fishing with artificial baits today. emoRolleyes Had a decent day, had one channel cat that was 6 lbs that crushed a deep diving crank bait in about 17 foot. It put up one nice fight getting it into the net. Got old slim all over my new boat carpet. Still working the crank but just a little deeper in about 20 foot had another hard hit on my crank and the rod just locked up. I could tell it was a good one and had to follow it around with the trolling motor a while before I finally got it to come up. One really good looking flathead. Had the camo mud color. It had inhaled my crank bait. Put the scales on it, 18 lbs and 15 ozes. When you are catching cats that big on 10 lb fluorocarbon with a crank you have to have a little patience. I managed one more flathead today on a shaky in about 16 foot but it was only about 2.50 lbs.

I kept having those nasty green fish get in my way while I was trying to catch those cats. The dang things would not leave my crank and worm alone. emoBigsmile Had a couple that were decent doing this but none were kicker quality. I guess I needed Derek there for those nasty green fish. Here is the big cat and a couple of my better bass today. Nice little outing for the fun of it today. Love the weather, going to be tuff when the real July weather catches back up with us. emoDoh Jmax

Great report. It was nice out there this morning for awhile as minimal traffic. Congrats on some nice fish

Jmax....Have I got a Flathead story to tell you....mmmmm, maybe next week sometime, and it ain't no fish tale either...In the mean time, how in the world did you stand to get that cat slime in the boat emoScratch emoBigsmile

I placed a small towel in the front of my bass boat, held down by the edge of the compartment. It stays in place while running but of course I must flatten it out when I stop. When I catch a catfish, or even some other type of fish, I put the fish still in the net down on the towel. I work with the fish there and it keeps at least 90% of the slime off of the carpet. Simply toss the towel in the washing machine once in a while.

Bout time you caught something decent.

Yea, we stunk yesterday evening big times. Should have had a limit. I broke one off(again), let another swim with my worm 10 foot before I realized it was there, missed 200 more(half may have been whites, I caught three) and finally boated one bass at 5 and a quarter pounds. Derek never hooked a fish. emoDoh Need to just start cat fishing with EricM but cannot stand the smell. emoTongue Jmax
