Have you ever had one of those days where you start off poor, try to correct it, find yourself getting worse, try to correct that, only to have yourself spiral out of control, then crash and burn? emoBang That could describe our day yesterday at the June CBA. I have really been struggling getting a big fish in the boat since the beginning of the year. Either I hook them and loose them or I don't get a big one on at all. Derek on the other hand has been getting a few big ones in the boat and has had his share of success this year. I had really hoped his good luck would rub off on me, I think my poor luck rubbed off on him yesterday. emoAngry

I feel we had a good plan. Started on the main river and within the first thirty minutes put several little guys in the boat when Derek gets a big explosion on his spook and his rod doubles. Yells for the net, I jump up, get the net and see this really nice bass that appears to be 4 1/2 to 5 pounds jump. emoDance Standing there with the net Derek does just what he is suppose to, half way back to the boat it jumps again, good fish, but the spook flies out of it and we are deflated. emoHoppingmad Shake it off, the day is just beginning, move on, forget it, I say to myself. Shortly there after Derek puts a decent 2 pounder in the boat and we have the skunk out of the live well. I get a tap on my shakey, double check since I kept missing them and the line is heavily easing off. Rare back, rod doubles, line stretches, pow! Line breaks! This is what set the pattern for us the rest of the day. emoMad

Let me save all the drama and get to the end of the chase. Before the day was done me and Derek will have lost nine good bass. emoEek Three of which we saw. I broke off three good bass!!!!!(Yes, I will be changing out my line.) I have not broke off any all year. I also lost another that threw me back my shakey when it jumped. Then another as it bull dogged me under the boat. Derek lost four good bass, all came off with me holding the net. emoCrazy The harder we tried the worse it got. emoBadLanguage I can honestly say that is the worse day in my life that I can remember in my 58 years of loosing fish. emoBooHoo Then to think it was in a CBA just made it harder to swallow.

You can't compete in a CBA when you can't get them in the boat. There is no telling what we would have had if we had been able to get them in. Top water that morning, shakeys and cranks once the sun came up was the ticket for getting bit. Derek blamed it all on me. emoRedface Said my bad luck rubbed off on him and he may be right. I thought with him being the guide and boat captain it would not be so, I was wrong.

We still were able to culled around five times and ended up with a respectable five bass limit at 15.71 pounds but it took over 19 something to get paid. emoGoofy I don't think the 97 degree topped out temp with half of Chattanooga on the water helped us either. I was so ready for the day to end and forget this one that I almost did not post it. Then I started feeling guilty to the idea of only posting the good ones.

Congrats to the winners and those who did get them in the boat. emoWorthy Jmax

I used to think you had a rabbits foot in your pocket....more like a dog turd these days! lol

I'll agree with Captain Hazmat on going with Seagaur but you don't need to go all out on the high-end stuff. The Invisx is the best line I've ever used. Put 15lb test on that shaky and the fish will never know its not the same 4lb test you keep snapping with your He-Man hook set.

Wow. As if the overwhelming heat wasn't bad enough. At least you guys managed a decent limit. Would've been really easy to leave and get some A/C.

Sorry about the bad luck We couldnt keep good ones on either but no pressure of the TX so wasnt as bad but still not good. Do the CBA rules allow you to jump in the water with the net! Just saying maybe that might work if you timed your jump and held the net at the right angle

Yea, I changed a couple years ago to Red Seagaur and went up from 10 lb test to 12. I have not had the issues with line breakage ever since until this one. emoScratch I changed out this rod the weekend before at the CFF and had no issue. Then it was like it rotted over the week. emoAngry The first two broke off back to back. I pealed off a 10 foot stretch and thought I had fixed it. But then later on that afternoon, same rod it happened again. Right before that I had hung up and thought I was going to break it off but it came loose. Derek pointed out I should have retied after it broke on the third fish. emoBang I believe in tournaments I rush it and push it too hard. Need to tie again when I hang up and get into structure more often. This one was just one where we seemed we could do nothing right. Really got to us. emoBooHoo Jmax

Check your rod guides before you give up on the 12 lb red label. It seems to do great for me thus far but I've not used it long.

Didnt he lose that in a lawnmower accident a few years ago?

Personally, I've had trouble with ALL brands of "cheaper" fluorocarbon. My standbys have become either Invisx or Abraxz, and have no problems whatsoever. I have friend with that feels the same way about Sunline, and has had similar results.
