Derek and I got there after most and had boat 26 on the blast off. We decided after everyone left out of Chester and we were the only boat in the area we just stayed there. ;) Had a limit in about an hour. It was nothing big but about 6.5 to 7 pounds with three small keepers. Try as we did we just could not find any size in the Dallas Bay area. Caught several bass but just no size. Tried worms, shakeys, cranks, spooks and c-rigs but nothing seemed to work. We finally left there and went in search of some better size bass. We hit a couple deep places but with all the nuts we did not fish them. emoCrazy Headed for calmer more out of traffic water. I think we caught about 20 to 25 bass today. That is actually slower then it has been. I am pretty sure we had nine keeper LM, one keeper spot and one short smallie, the rest were short LM. We managed a couple on top but size was just lacking for us today. Finally about 11:00 I made a cast to a point of an underwater grass flat and my line loaded up. I set the hook and knew it was a good one. The bass bull dogged on me and went down and out to deeper water. I told Derek to get the net ready cause that was the exact same thing that 8/4 did to me a couple weeks ago. I loosened the drag and played it for a bit. Finally caught a glimpse of it and it was a good one. Got it on top and Derek got the net under her. She was 6/9 and with her we culled our smallest little keeper. emoThumbsup Maybe about 45 minutes later the same thing happens to Derek. He at first said he did not know if he needed the net. Then she pulled drag and I went for the net. Nice bass came up and I netted it. emoTongue Our second small keeper now gets culled. His was 3/8. I kept telling Derek I know we are going to get a check with those three but we needed to cull that other two pounder to feel safe about winning it. Try as we did we hit several other places but never had a keeper bigger then 2/6 which was the last small keeper from that morning.

We came in with 12.70 to take second behind first who had 12.72. emoDoh Good Lord!!! Beat again by just a hair, 2 one hundredths of a pound. emoRolleyes Did get big bass with my 6/9 so we came away with a nice little amount of cash today. It was a zoo out there but it really seemed to me it was getting bad about noon so most of the morning was pretty nice. emoToast

Thanks to all who fished it and the officers for another job well done. emoThanks Jmax

I was wondering about the health of fish at weigh in. Did most make it. I know everyone does their best to keep them healthy, but it sure was hot and they all took a beating in the livewell.

I did not see a dead one today. However several were apparently caught deep and then released still with air. They came to the top and bellied up. There was a couple guys who got needles and starting fizzing them. I only saw one left out of reach when I was leaving so it would appear most at least swam away. You never know about delayed kills. Mine and Dereks were caught shallow. We never had any issues. I used "Stay Alive" and ice. I iced the water four times today and they were kicking like crazy when we took ours out of the live wells. No problems at all for them to swim away. emoThumbsup Jmax

Great report and congrats on the 2nd place finish and big bass. I really hated to miss the event but the wife and I did have a great week in Destin emoBigsmile . Looks like Derek more than filled my spot holding down the back deck. emoWorthy The top of standings is getting real crowded, looks like the rest of the year is going to be interesting emoBigsmile .

Nice catch Jmax!! And a great report too! Same shallow pattern you ran last week? I'm like you, rather do that all day then deal with the crazies on the make river :)

No, my shallow bite is dieing on me. :( It was a lot slower and the bass as a whole were smaller. But we got lucky and boated two good ones to still do well for the weigh in. Those two good ones were on the edge of newly growing grass and near deeper water. I am afraid the bigger bass are moving deeper and the deep boys will start owning the tournaments for the next couple months. emoRolleyes Jmax

Captain hook also failed to mention gouging a Rapala past the barb in his finger just as we finished the day and were about to head in. Wasn't too funny when I saw it happen but now that it's been a few days I don't feel bad for laughing. hahaha emoParty emoAngel

I had a great time fishing as always and hope we can find that 6lbers momma for the CBA this coming weekend, plus it won't be near as hot so that is a plus. emoToast

Captain Hook! emoLaugh

Yea, when you go to put the rods in the box for the day and turn away to get another, then have a hook on one go into your finger down to the bend of the hook!!! I was trying not to remember that. emoBawl As my son when he was little use to say....That was a big owie! The bad part was it pinned me in the box. The rod was on the rack and the hook was deep in my finger, I could not get up without removing the rod and the rod was not going anywhere with me stuck to it. No choice but to rip that mo@*%@ out! emoBadLanguage I bled all over the boat, my steering wheel and everything else I touched. I was lucky in the event that it did not get infected. When I got home I soaked my finger in alcohol for a few minutes and then doctored it up good. The bait was fairly new with good clean sharp hooks so no problem there either. Could have been a lot worse. emoVomit Jmax
