Today was a slow day for me and after a quote and checking in, the weather just never came to Ooltewah like they thought it might. It spit snow a couple times but nothing even worth mentioning. They say the second round will be a lot more. Since I have been on a really good crappie bite in all the cold weather "Biofisher I" had told me he would love to put a mess or two in his freezer if he could. Biofisher is a Biology Teacher and today with the schools all closed I saw our chance to wet a hook together. I called him and sure enough he was home. He also lives over here near me so meeting up at the wolf to launch the boat was no issue.

Got on the water and the wind was not too bad, waves not too bad and even the cold was not too bad. emoThumbsup Started a milk run to find the crappie and it did not take long. Our first stop we had six in the boat in the first ten minutes. emoTongue The only issue was size today. Where as the other day they all seemed to be keepers except a couple, today we had about a two to one ratio of shorts to keepers. We hit docks, bluffs, points and ditches. Put about 60 in the boat. We kept 19 good size crappie for Bio to take home. emoHungry No tarps today but I think we had a couple 13 inchers. We were out for 4 hours so the catching was pretty strong. Just like before the crappie were caught on 4 lb test with a 1/32 nd jig head. I used tubes in blue/chartreuse and red/chartreuse. Bio did the same but used a little crappie assassin type bait in several different colors he tried.

We had a really good time for such a cold winter day. Thanks for the company Gary. emoToast

Thanks for the trip today Jmax. Cold weather aside it was first class all the way. The fishing , the company and the sweet ride of a new Ranger. If we did not have to cull the small ones we could have been out of the cold in half the time. I really enjoyed the trip and the fellowship today. What a great day to spend on the water. Let's do it again soon.

You treated my favorite teacher well today, Jmax. emoThumbsup Good fishing. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Nice, Jmax! Sorry I missed you this AM. Had the plumbers at the house. Glad you & Gary hooked up! Nice day of speck snatchin'!

Thanks gang, Gary and I met about eight years ago when he became a member of the forum and we were both over at Polo's house. emoThumbsup We have been friends since but he has a nice Ranger Boat also and we have just never hooked up to fish some together. We have seen each other on the lake many times. I think that trip was long over due. Gary has a junior in high school that is a great baseball player as well as his teaching job keeps him very busy. Between his son's ball playing and his job I was happy to give him a little cold weather relief. I agree Gary, I had a really good time too. But who doesn't when your on the fish. emoBigsmile emoThumbsup Jmax

GREAT JOB GUYS HOW DEEP WERE YOU FISHING

Mostly came from around 7 foot to 18 foot. Some seemed suspended and some seemed camped out in the mud on the bottom. The trick was getting it in their face and barely moving it. Had a couple hit it coming up with the jig to the boat so I know some were suspended. There are a lot of shad schools and you can't tell the shad schools from the suspended crappie on the fish finders. At least I have a hard time doing it. emoScratch Jmax
