I must not have been holding my mouth right. After seeing what it took to be in the top four places of the tournament I can tell you my report is not worthy. It was kind of strange thou. I talked to both Derek and Tim who had over 15 lbs, Tim was second and Derek was forth. Both of them said they did not have that many bass but the bites they had were good ones. I was just the opposite. I had a ton of bites. I know I boated at least 25 bass but had more I missed then caught. emoScratch I culled three or four times but for only ounces each time. I even caught two bass at once on a spook. One on the front hook and the other on the back hook. emoSmile Never could find the size I needed to even be in the race.

I was working the grass mats with a frog and swim. Then the scattered grass out in the deeper water with a buzz and spook. I did have one fish worth talking about. On a long point I threw out my spook and was working across some scattered grass when the water under my spook exploded sending my spook about two foot into the air. I about jerked out of reflex but could tell it did not have it. It fell right back down. Popped it a couple more times and the water made a big boil under it. I knew it was a huge bass! emoEek Popped it a couple more times and the water exploded again like someone had dropped a grenade there. Line went really tight and the fight was on! I backed off the drag and held on. Had on 14 lb mono and it was screaming off the reel. I could not turn it. Took about fifty yards of line and I started chasing it with the trolling motor. I thought I had the big bass of the tournament, maybe even another 12 lber. emoBigsmile It would not come up and it took another run of line. My heart started sinking, I knew my big bass was probably not the one I needed. Finally wore it down and got up to it. Yep, my new record bass was a 15 lb striper. emoDoh (Pic below)

Still had a blast, you just can't complain when the bass are hitting that well. My best three were 3/2, 2/13 and 2/11. Not even nine pounds. emoRedface If the bite stays on next weekend, the CBA is going to be a blow out of a battle. emoSmile

C-ya out there! emoAngler Jmax
