Jmax, Chick, Hippi's and T Roy's night tournament (2nd place), Bass, 6/30/12, All by myself
Yesterday afternoon I called Derek to see if he wanted to go fish this one. We have been on a roll and thought we would try again. He had told his better half since we had been fishing so much he would hang with her so he would win some brownie points. emoAngel So, I called CCSM my CFF partner to see if he wanted to. He was on his way to a July 4th party and was not sure if he would get out of it early enough to show. emoScratch I told him I would keep the back seat open for him and if he did, to call and come. He never called. I was not sure I was even going to go but then VEC made my mind up for me. The power at my house went out and there I was...no TV and no computer....wife sitting there reading a book and me bored. Yep,....I went. emoBigsmile
There was 21 boats that showed up to fish that hot tournament so I was not the only stupid person. emoPoke I made a weird bet with myself and decided I was only going to use one rod all night for this event. I choose one of my Fat Albert custom rods with a spider cast reel loaded up with 10 lb fluorocarbon on it. emoThumbsup That is the only rod I used all night. I had a shakey on it. Before the sun set I used a green pumpkin finesse worm and after I switched to a black seven inch culprit worm. The bass for me were about the same as the last couple of tournaments I have been on. You had to have some kind of structure, grass, brush pile or dock in order to find fish holding and willing to bite. I focused my efforts on 6 to 20 feet. It was slow but fairly consistent. Just as before in some cases I never felt the hit, the rod just felt mushy. I would set the hook and there would be one. I boated about 20 bass last night with eight keepers. Not bad for being by myself. I did break off one that felt pretty good that got hung up in something. I could feel it on the line and the rod was doubled, it went on a bull dog run with the line wrapped and it broke. emoAngry Not much you can do about that.
It was a pretty good night for me other then that one that broke off. I was sweating in the boat just fishing up until about 11:00 last night. I did not have a dry piece of clothing on me. I was sure glad to have a little breeze come in about then and with my clothing wet it cooled me off. emoThumbsup I did not have a bunch of heavy fish. Actually I got lucky and boated a big one right at eight pounds. emoDance On my scale it was eight...on their scale it showed 7.97. Mine is in ozes and it rounded up. The rest of my bass last night were not all that heavy. I weighed most of them culling as I went. I had a 2/11, 2/10, 2/9, 2/5, 2/4 and a couple I did not weigh since I could tell they would not help. I weighed in the 8, 2/11 and 2/10 for 13.42 lbs and second place. I also got big bass with my big one. emoToast All on a shakey and all by or in structure from 6 feet to 20 feet in depth.
Haden Lamb and Logan Kokoszke took it with 14.19 lbs (Congrats) and Brent Haze and David Hix came in third with 12 something (congrats). There were some ringers that showed up...Ron who has been taking everyone's money but did not do well last night. He told me his fish played out last night. emoSorry There were a couple other 10 lbs sacks and some that pitched their fish once they saw what was winning.
Thanks to Troy and Hippie for putting it on. emoThanks Had a good time even considering the heat. Always good to be on the water with other anglers with the same addiction as me. Looking forward to seeing everyone this Weds morning on the 4th. I will be blasting off at 6 a.m. so be early and in the water. emoAngler Jmax
