The bass here were just starting to pull up out of the deeper water but after the last couple of nights the water is cooling off again. :( Started shallow and did not get a smell. Not even a hit. Moved deeper and still struggled. The water on my end of the lake was crystal clear even with all the rains we have been having. You could see about 6 foot deep. I even saw two small bass swim by and they ignored my shakey. Finally hit a deep drop off point where the water was about 27 foot and managed two small keepers on a brush pile there. At least I did not get skunked is what came to mind. emoRolleyes Started thinking about a couple other spots like that and moved to a larger brush pile that was on a drop leading back into a spawning bay that was also in 27 feet. 3 more small keepers came into the boat but it was a grind. Keep in mind, here a small keeper is only 12 inches. emoRedface

I abandoned this pattern since it was so slow and moved up lake looking for dirty water. I found it. Appeared the upper half of my lake was muddy and it just had not reached down to my end. Started in about 15 to 20 foot and nothing. Moved more shallow and found the pattern of the day. Those bass in that end of the lake had moved up out of the deeper water and had started staging where the deep water met up closer to the bank leading back into the spawning flats. If there was brush or structure there it seemed to have a bass or two. Ended up a very good pattern for the mid morning and afternoon bite. Boated 21 more bass doing this with a shakey head. Had a couple three pounders and several twos. Don't get a lot of big girls here so that is a pretty good day for this lake. Totaled 26 bass in the boat, lost 5 more reeling them in and missed a few more. Best day yet this year for me on my lake. All came on the ol' faithful shakey head with a finesse worm. Water temp was 57 to 59 depending on where in the lake you were.

Planning on being down your way next week. You know, one of those damn out of staters trying to catch your fish. emoBigsmile Looking at your reports I sure hope the bite picks up by next week. Will be on the water Monday thru Friday. Tight lines gang. emoToast Jmax

Great Report Jim! I hope your visit next week with the foreign invaders (LOL) works out ok although right now I'd say conditions will have to improve dramatically. Our biggest problem seems to be the rain and more rain. The water level goes up and down and up and down and it stays muddy. They are pulling around 100K at the Chick right now and I don't expect them to stop spilling for a while. Of course it doesn't matter about the conditions for a lucky few. Someone will always figure them out and find fish. Anyway, great report - 26 bass is a good trip anytime, anyplace! Good luck next week.
