Decided to drop the boat and hit the lake for an afternoon trip. Went probably the worst time of day to go. emoCrazy Got on the water at 10 a.m. and came in at 3 p.m. It has not been all that cool here yet. The ol' muggy hot summer of Arkansas is still hanging on and the heat index has still been hitting triple digits on a couple days each week. With that said the bass seem to still be hanging deep and have not moved up in force. Early in the morning and right before dark it seems some will hit shallow but the water here is like fishing a bath tub and it is not easy to get them to hit shallow. I started in 15 feet fishing a crank and blanked, went a little deeper fishing a worm in about 18 to 20 feet and still blanked again. I was feeling my trip might be a bust. Move a little deeper to 22 to 30 foot and was fishing edges out on the main lake. I was taking a large 1/2 oz spinner bait, letting it fall to the bottom and slow rolling it across the top of the edges and then letting it fall off to deeper water. 1st bass to crush it was one near 4 lbs. emoDance It was a slow way to fish and you could not fish it fast or it would come up to high from the bottom. However this pattern worked. Put several nice bass in the boat.

It was really starting to heat up at 3 so I headed home then. One of the areas I normally can catch a couple good ones on cranks is right by the house. I could not help but stop there before going in. It is a ditch out in a large bay and often it seems the bass use it like a high way coming and going into the bay. I have had some banner days hitting this when they were there. Using the crank again in about 16 feet I was bouncing it off the bottom buy burning it down and letting it reflex off of whatever it hit. Next thing I know it just stopped in it's tracks. Reared back and had some drag pull off, emoTongue up came the best one of the day at 4 and a half. emoThumbsup

Not a bad afternoon in the heat of the day, best five would have gone between 16 to 16 and a half pounds. Good for this lake. emoBigsmile Jmax

Here are the two best ones from today, tight lines to all you guys. emoToast

Thanks for the report. Good fish! Those patterns could work here too. Water is HOT.

That is a pattern I used there this time of year. emoThumbsup It did seem however the bass at the Chick moved up a little more early, I do believe this was mainly due to the vegetation that the Chick has. As the summer came to an end the grasses on the Chick died back under the canopy of green allowing a vast underwater world to have access for those bass to escape the sun and forage for prey. We do not have that here so the water needs to cool more. emoGeezer Jmax
