Bow season started this weekend and I just could not bring myself to go sit in the pouring rain and bow hunt. Still was a little too hot and for sure too wet. Yesterday afternoon after three days of rain here I decided to put on my rain suit and go try a little bass fishing. Since it had been raining so much here for three days the lake had jumped a foot or so. There is some green kind of water vegetation around this lake in several areas that grows out of the water a foot or so. Since the water was so high most of it was submerged or barely showing. Like so many lakes when the water jumps and it is overcast with clouds and passing rain I broke out a black buzz bait and headed for shallow water.
Before this I did try a couple other places, first stop I tried a ditch running back into the shallows with no success. Second stop was a area where the water came up out of a deep funnel and then spread over a shallow flat. At that time I was using a crank and manage to hook up with two, one jumped off and the other made it into the boat. I actually thought, "At least I am not going to get skunked." ;)
Moved up lake and hit another flat similar to that and managed to hook up with three all on a spinner bait working an area with scattered bush piles. One of those also jumped off. emoScratch They were hitting but not really eating it. It was about this time I decided to head for the bank and start fishing the black buzz. I put the trolling motor on high and started covering a lot of water looking for a reaction strike in the grass. This ended up being the ticket. Had a bunch of blow ups and several missed but managed to put nine bass in the boat with three others jumping off. emoSmile A couple of my bass came from water that could not have been more then two foot. Love a top water buzz bait bite in shallow flooded grass. emoDance
Best bass I got in the boat went 4/11, she was in that two to three foot right in the middle of a ton of that grass. you can see it in that picture. She came up and destroyed that buzz, looked like a bowling ball hitting the water. emoEek Final tally was 12 bass in the boat and lost five others that I saw which jumped off and gave me back my bait. I was using 60 lb braid on the buzz bait so I could force the bass out of the grass. Lots of fun. emoThumbsup

Here is my best bass, the 4/11. Tight lines to you all. emoToast Jmax
