I hit the nail on the head in what I said in the post on Weds. Early morning bite was shallow but size was lacking. The bigger fish were deep out on the river. Well, I would say a bigger fish were deep out on the river. No one in the whole tournament caught what I consider a big fish. emoRolleyes James and I hauled butt to a back water area with grass just under the surface. Starting whacking them right off. James boated a nice long buck bass that was 2/1, I followed between several shorts with a 2/4 and a 1/14. Had a limit in the boat in about the first hour, on pop Rs and spooks. Proceeded to cull ozes at a time. Nothing big but got rid of the two smaller ones with two more two's. Moved out deeper and started using a shakey on the grass edges. Caught a couple more keepers with one at 2/9. Now we had two that were 2/4 and the one that was 2/9. Looking at only seven pounds. emoScratch Told James we needed to head for the river and hit some deeper water. First stop hit the mother load and culled all three of our bass in four casts. emoSmile Put in a 3/11, a 2/11 and a 2/10. Kept on cranking and culled up an oz here and there for about an hour. All on cranks and swim baits in 17 to 19 feet of water. We were bouncing them off the bottom and when they hit they would slam it. emoThumbsup
Never found any really big fish just a lot of two pounders with the one three mixed in. We lost a couple that may have helped today but you really never know. They always look bigger in the water and grow when they come off. emoTongue I think our final three came to the scales at 3/11, 2/14 and 2/11. Our total was 9.27 pounds and we also were surprised that our biggest got big bass of the tournament. I think on the CFF scales it weighed 3.72 lbs. Took second place overall. emoToast
I thought it might be tuff out there today based on what everyone had been saying and today's weigh-in reflected that. Good to see everyone. Thanks for riding with me James as always. emoThanks Jmax
