Went out for a bit Sat, did some scouting and joyriding as the lake was so beat up, tons of boats. Sunday got out around 7:15 am . Water was 67-68 degrees out of WT landing. Fished 2-8' of water around downed timber off main river. Had a blast. Fished till about 10:30 or so. Had many bites that I missed, Hooked a dozen or so, landed 7 bass the biggest being about 3 lbs. I say landed as all the biggest fish I hooked jumped and threw the bait. Fishing shakey head jigs with roboworms in a purple color, 5 inch. This is the first time I used a head called a Spot Remover.. I had 4 fish(3 LM and 1 really nice smalley) jump and throw the hook. All I would say over 4 lbs. Felt like good hooksets..but not sure with the way hook stands up should use a sweep motion to set hook or something?? Maybe just bad luck. Been a while since I went through a whole bag of plastic on a short outing..but did run out. Had short hits where they bit the bait in half..lol. Switched to a Zoom 6" finess in purple and caught fish.
While I was floating over water 14" deep , throwing to shore, twice had pig sized LM come up within 15 feet of boat and suck bait of surface..tried throwing topwaters but couldn't get them to hit. Looked like spawned out females, very long, but thin in the belly..
