I have a 1990 70 HP Johnson with the VRO2 fuel pump. Im having problems at WOT. Hada mechanic look at it when I was in Savannah and said it has good compression, spark, floats not sticking, changed fuel tank and fuel line with priming pump and new spark plugs. He cleaned the high speed jets. I took off the carbs and looked the bowls and theyareclean. It starts and idols fine but wont go WOT. He thinks its a fuel problem and not a ignition problem.I have disconnected the oil part of the VRO a couple years ago and mix my own fuel. I think that the VRO might not be puting out enough fuel pressure at WOT.I want to change the VRO to the old style fuel pump. I have heard of other people doing this but not sure what fuel pump to use.

I just went through this I found a fuel pump on line without the oil for 330.00 I also found a used one for 150 so I bought the used on and it doin great mine is a 1990 225 but im sure you can get one

This is for Wrenchin2...I replaced the vro pump with the one in the link from above. Do i still connect the vacuum side to the pulse limiter or do i need to take out the pulse limiter and put in a straight barb fitting? The motor runs ok at wot for a short period (1 minute or so) of time then starts to bog down and sometimes stalls but will restart right back. Thanks

Yes, Take out the pulse limiter and install just a standard nipple. That pump uses the positive and negative crankcase pulses to work and the limiter may be limiting the pulses. Keep us posted.
