Finally a good day of fishing to report. Put in at Suck Creek and only had limited time to fish. Found spots coming off the bed and they were HUNGRY. Between the two of us we boated 24 spots in three hours and probably lost half that. I love fishing for spots. It seems like they can carry a worm around forever, you set the hook and he just opens his mouth and lets you have your bait back. Out of the 24 I'd say a least a dozen to 15 were keepers with the biggest probably 2.5.
No giants but a great few hours of fishing after all the crazy spring weather. The current down there is still running about 62K which is about half of what's its been the last couple of weeks. Anything above what it was today and my trolling motor just can't keep up.
T-rigged 4" Z-Man in pumpkinseed did the trick for us. Either that or Yum Dingers in the same color. Seems like the shorter the worm the better. We were fishing worn out worms down to about 2" at times. Water temp 64, overcast and caught fish anywhere from up against the bank down to about 15 feet.
I almost kind of hate to give it away, but there were only two other trailers in the parking lot the whole time we were there. Only mishap was a bonehead fishing off the courtesy dock and, if I'm lyin' I'm dyin', he threw a line and bobber right behind my boat as I was backing up to get on the trailer. Chopped his line and put about 20 wraps around my prop. I gave him the stink eye and I swear he told me it was ok but he'd have to re-tie emoBang
