It seems to me (a veteran rookie) that the early warm weather has the males looking for beds, but with the water so low they can't get to where they wanna be. I personally have found small males, but no big mama bass yet. My thinking is that other than the ones you'll find in 1-2 ft of water (and some report high numbers and big fish!), most are thinking "gotta spawn" but are confused and moving between shallow and deeper water trying to figure out just what's going on. Again, I'm far from an expert...just my opinion...can't wait to hear from the experts...

This isnt something "new" to the fish around here. I would say there are already some fish on bed bec of the temps. They just do it in deeper water. Our big fish last week, her tail was already healed up.

Im no expert, but thats my opinion.

Thanks for the thoughts and opinions. It does seem as if the fish are very confused with the early warm weather and low water. So if the fish are confused, they have decided to confuse me too. I just wish they would bring the water up a bit earlier.

If you put on some polarized glasses and get in some real clear water and move pretty slow, get on a spawning area you will be amazed at all the spawning activity going on. I have seen very many males getting beds started and some females on beds. They are very spooky though and hard to catch.

fish right now are still for the most part in the pre-spawn mode. most of the bigger mamas will be in slightly deeper water. i agree that the fish on the chic should certainly be used to the rising water and warmer temps the next full moon (its not far away ) you will see the the major wave of fat mamas move shallow to spawn. while i think that they're are fish spawning now i think the biggest wave will be on the next lunar phase. just my .02 but that is also with 35 plus exp. fishing this lake.also this lake is notorious for having fish lay out well into may and june. keep your eyes peeled in the coming months just to see.happy huntin.

Thanks again for all of the useful opinions and info. This is just my 4th year big into bass fishin' on the chick so I know I have quite a bit more to learn and I 'preciate any useful information. I have learned a lot just over the past couple of years. The spawn on the chick is just an ol' tricky matter.
