I just got my Hummingbird 997 SI sonar/GPS. I will be hooking it up tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone here has one, and if you can tell me any tricks to get started???

I'm not trying to be a smart@$$, but the best piece of advice I can give you is to read the manual cover to cover. Humminbird really laid it out well and it’s very thorough.

Mount your transducer high, because that puppy is expensive. If you do realize you have a problem the manual doesn’t answer holler at me and I'll try to help out. There is a wealth of information on an unofficial sideimaging forum http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sideimaging/

Oh yeah, don't forget to do a little fishing instead of staring at the screen........you'll see what I mean.

Man I am jealous. The 997 SI is the all time Iwannaneedagottahavit depthfinder. Lots of great info online about this unit.

Drop me a PM also if you would like, I have had mine for over a year now. I should work for humminbird because everyone ends up getting one after fishing with me. Hardest part is knowing what you are seeing, and don't do what I did. When I first installed it, somehow or another I shut off one of the frequencies for the transducer. I never got those "pretty" arches and finally figured it out by READING THE MANUAL!
