Just thought I would throw this out for anyone with a Big Block OMC v-6....if you should happen to need a Fuel Pump/VRO .
Symptoms: Sudden loss of power while on plane...OH NO !!!..you think it has just had it`s dying last gasp....But when you try to start it ...it starts fine and idles good .....put it in gear and it idles for a few minutes then runs out of gas.....pump the gas line bulb a little and it runs for a couple more minutes and then runs out of gas again.
Problem : Fuel Pump/VRO....whew !!
Replacement cost $350+...Since I`ve had the VRO unhooked for about 5 years it really galded my hiney to have to pay that price for a part that used to cost about $75 before they added the VRO.
Well I dug around on the internet long and hard and finally found one WITHOUT the VRO for about $215...
Since I don`t have the Vacuum Pump to test the parts...I took it to my favorite mechanic Mark Bunch at Bunch Marine along with a copy of the webpage(outboardparts.com) with the VRO-less pump. He hadn`t heard of this kind of pump before but he looked and OMC offered one for about $250..... the difference ? OMC has a 1-year warranty. If the new one lasts 10 years like the orginal one did....then I`ll be happy.
Just thought I`d throw this out in case you run into the same problem.
