Hi everyone, have been lurking for awhile, and decided it was time to join in. Moved to Hixson about 2 years ago, and haven't done much fishing on the lakes. I was without a boat for the first time in many years. Have a new boat coming, hopefully next week, so will be getting after em soon.

I really enjoy reading the fishing reports and the help from all the people posting here. I have fished all over North America, and had a fishing and hunting guide service and camp for several years on Lake of the Woods in northwestern Ontario. We recently lived on Lake Hartwell in SC and I got the striper bug.

Looking forward to meeting some of you guys and maybe fishing together sometime. I am retired so can go most anytime. I like to fish for crappie, smallmouth bass, stripers, and especially walleye and sauger. From the looks of the fishing reports I need to take some crappie fishing lessons from you guys!! Anybody want to volunteer? lol

Oh yeah, I have 3 Labs and a Golden Retriever. Don't ask me why as I don't duck hunt anymore.

Keep your tip up.

Norman

Glad to have you Labman! emoWelcome I'm jealous of your years on Lake in the Woods! Been to Trout Lake in Ontario 8 or 9 times over the years, and that my friends, is God's country! Most beautiful place I've ever seen up there! And some of the best Walleye and Pike fishing you can have!

Big welcome to you. Don't look for much if any Sauger or Walleye action around here.
Put in at Tyner boat ramp on Chick and follow a hell of of a fisherman around with Drunking on his Bass Tracker motor and you'll learn all about crappie fishing.
Or just read his posts-might be safer! emoWelcome

Hope you get after them soon.

BTW. I will be heading to my parents' house on Hartwell tonight for the weekend. Am bringing my boat. Any good not-so-secret holes near Hartwell Marina?

On behalf of the other Moderators, welcome to the forum. You'll find more smallmouth on the upper part of Chickamaga. The farther north you go on the Tennessee River System, the better the smallmouth fishing.

Oh yeah, I feel your pain on the labs. I have a black and a yellow. Neither of them would you want with you on a duck hunting trip. The black one would chew the duck to bits, the yellow one would lose it (typical blonde).

Anyway, they are usually with me in the boat, I am am usually yelling at one or the other, so holler if you see us.

Hi Jt,

This time of year the stripes are stacked up in main river channel usually in the timber. Hybrids will roam the lake in large schools and tear up the shad on or near the surface. Find the bait fish, you can see them at the surface and hybrids and stripes will be nearby. I would start down at the dam on the SC side and work back. If you mark some fish try vertical jigging with some sort of spoon or sonar bait. I got a 24# stripe 2 years ago jigging a 3" hopkins spoon in about 35 feet of water. The stripes wont go too deep this time of year, no o2 below thermocline.

If you get some fish on top, they will hit most anything, super flukes on a jig head are good, really buzz and jerk them.

Good luck and let me know how you did

the only sauger i've caught down here was more or less by accident! We were worm fishing for bass in the middle of the summer in the North Chickamauga creek and one decided to take the bait. hahaha we had never seen one of these things before and were really surprised when he opened his chompers and showed off his teeth! I hear they are good eatin though.

Thanks all

Thank you everyone for the welcoming messages. Looking forward to seeing you on the water. By the way where is Tyner boat ramp so I can follow the crappie master around, lol. I don't see it marked on any maps that I have.

Yes, the labs are hard to beat, have 2 black females and a white/yellow male. Our golden retriever thinks he is top dog, but the smallest black female is alpha dog.

Good fishing to all and keep your tip up.

take 58 highway then turn left b y harrison elementary and the ball fields.. ramp is about 1 mile on the left.. no dock or lights but decent parking.. there are better ramps but when the lake is crowded this one is worth using
welcome to the forum look forward to some reports
