My Grandaughter just finished her last tournament last saturday at 6 pm. She started on a recreation league in early spring, went to Dade Middle school ball after that, then a fall Select team during the end of the school team season.
The tournies were anywhere from all day sat. to friday eve through Sunday eve. We played from Forsyth, Ga to Gatlinburg. And from what I'm told that's nothing!
Team memberships are from $500 to $1,000 per child and her latest bat cost as much as some of my better baitcast rigs!
Needless to say-I"M READY TO FISH!! But-wouldn't miss a game!
Anyone else doin' this?

My daughter is 16. Been doing travel summer and fall softball since she was 5 years old. Also have a son that plays travel baseball. As soon has summer ball is over. School ball starts, then after that fall ball and now even wanting to play some winter tourneys. On top of all that she plays high school volleyball and he plays football. I have no idea how I even have time to fish or hunt. But like you said I wouldn't take nothing for it.

That "bat" is a lifetime investment in self esteem and teamwork, lesson you can't get in a classroom....You being there will be a life time of great memories she can share long after you are gone with her grandchildren....Those fish are waiting on you ....and crappie bite is on! emoBigsmile

Man that brings back memories. My oldest is now almost 26 and she played for years, even on a 2nd place state high school team. Never forget the state tournament in Memphis even though it was a heart breaker. I can't tell you how many thousands of hours we spent at practice, games, etc. Long weekends. Man get an early loss on Thursday night and come up through the loser bracket on Friday and all day Sat before a Sunday final. I remember one tournament on Mother's day weekend at Soddy Lake. The girls were about 12. They wanted to finish on Saturday so the finals were scheduled at 9 pm but.... rain delays, extra inning games etc. and the finals didn't start till about 11:30 pm. Lost the first game, went to the second and won it for the championship. Girls lined up on the first baseline about 2 am and gave there mother's a team unison "Happy Mother's Day". It was crazy. Can't believe they let us play that late. She still mentions that occasionally. My wife and I now laugh and tell everyone "softball is a CULT!"

My youngest has played select soccer for years and now also plays high school soccer. The soccer schedule is much more sane but the parents are just as crazy. All great memories.

Tell them I'm coming!
Thanks for the other replies from you folks that know the experience-it is actually overwhelming and such a strong character/spiritual building for these young adults!

My baby girl just started her 1st year of college (on a softball scholarship). We have been where you are and would do it all again in a heart beat. I still have her college games to look forward to but it is not nearly as much fun as the 10-14 year olds.
Enjoy while you can and sneak in as much fishing as you can before March!

Just you wait Roy! You ain't seen nothing yet! If she continues with the select teams and into High School your in for a real treat! You may need trade that boat in for a motor home!

She's already practiced with the high school and they pretty much have their eye on her. The nice thing Earl-she is my GRANDaughter-so I can pretty much put it on her Mother when I need!
Honestly though, I would hate to miss a game!
