Dang-it...I was really wanting to go hunting but not in shorts and short sleeve shirt.emoDoh I have gotten up for three mornings straight just to walk outside to find lows in the seventies. I just cannot go when it is that hot. Not to mention the bugs you end up swatting at all morning. Supposedly it is going to drop tomorrow and I might finally get out on a stand. May rain but at least that should drop this temp.emoRain Yesterday I went out and scouted a bit and when I got back I realized I had seed ticks all over my pants.emoMad Anyone else been out that has not posted lately?emoSun Jmax

Jim, surely it isn't as bad as we had it last year on Guntersville with the
heat and all the grass nats that would stick to your face. emoLaugh emoPoke emoLaugh

Yes I have been but forgot my bug spray and therma-cell. Finally had to get down by 9:30 could not take the abuse anymore.

Saturaday all day Sunday morning till 12:45 PM and all day Tuesday. Thermo-cell keeps all the critters away with the exception of them darn Chiggers. They have eaten me up "Scratch-scratch". About two months ago the ticks were awful. However, for the last few weeks they have seemed to be settling down a bit. I have not found a tick on me for the last ten trips to the woods. But the Chiggers - -

The heat and dry earth have the deer holding tight to their watering holes and deep gulfs. The big problem to me has been this full moon. The deer are moving late night and then minimally in mid-day only. I am not going again until Saturday.

Chiggers - What do you do to get rid of them? My lower legs look like hamburger meat.

I know this may sound nuts but since you are going nuts I will tell you what I was told to do and it does seem to work. Fill your bath up and put a couple caps full of clorox in the water. Not too strong unless you want to bleach your hair.;) Soak in it and they seem to let go and die. Works well on seed ticks also. On the bites use Preperation H.emoBigsmile Don't laugh...too late, you already did. I was told that by a logger that was in them all the time doing his job and it may not smell that great but it does stop the itching.emoThumbsup Jmax

too hot??!
come on jmax, gotta sweat a little to earn a deer. just take plenty of scent away spray to hose yourself down as the sweat builds up. also the spray mist cools you off a little. i know it gets rough when its hot, and eventually i'll actually be in the state of virginia on a weekend, and i can get into the woods. i go to the archery range in the evenings after work to try and help the 'fever' but it only helps a lil. i think the first time i'll get to hunt is gonna be mid-october!!emoBang

Permanone will keep the chiggers off. Be careful though I had a friend put to much directly on his skin . It sent him to the emergency room . Suppost to just spray on clothes. If you spray on pants legs night before you should be fine just be careful putting directly on skin. The mist off that scent away does feel good. I bring x tra deodorant also and apply it as needed.

If the gnats are getting in your eyes, just unzip your pants!emoLaugh

;) That must be why you have hunted "Big Boy" for three years without a shot. He must smell you from the sounds of it.emoPoke Jmax

what i hate worse than anything are mosquitoes. i luckily haven't had chiggers since childhood, and usually ticks aren't a problem. but skeeters, man they'll drive a man insane. thank goodness i got thermacell now, so maybe they won't be as bad this year. ryno skin works well if noone has tried that stuff. its kind of like the under armour clothing, very tight fitting, but insects can't bite through it. my set was good for about 4 years, then enough washings stretched the fabric out enough to get bitten through... so its time to order a new set.

and it will keep out chiggers. they don't advertise mosquitoes, but i found they could not bite through it.

yea,its been just to darn hot,as for the cover scent,i always use tinks 69 whether its before during or after the rut,i think though the next time i go hunting....gonna leave the tinks at home and just set a tall glas of cold water under my stand, with no water in the creeks that glass of water should draw em...right?emoSun
