So I've got a 3 1/2 yr old black lab, pure breed, papers and all...about a month ago i had him snipped...2 days after the procedure he had a seizure... I know this was his first one because he's a inside dog...He just had another...it was pretty bad, lasted about two minutes...Anyway he's going back to the vet...But i'm wondering if anyone else has delt with this...Thanks guys and gals...

My sister had a pure bred Irish setter years ago that wound up having epilepsy. She'd have really bad seizures and would smell like ammonia when she had them.

Right now we've got a mutt that has a thyroid problem and has to take pills every day. The vet should be able to figure it out for you though.

I have a 10 month old black lab that I had fixed about a month ago. I haven't had any problems. Sorry I wasn't much help. Hope you find out what's wrong with him.

I just talked to a board certified Veterinary Neurologist in Knoxville. She said there was no correlation between neutering and seizures.

But! she did say that complications with the anesthesia can cause brain damage which can lead to seizures. She said the complications would have had to be severe and recovery would have been difficult and you would have readily known something was wrong with the dog.

She "guessed" it was just a coincidence.

One personal observation: I've seen dogs with a low pain threshold that were prone to seizures in times of stress.

My folks have always had labs (mostly chocolates). From time to time all of them have had these seizures. I know Im no help but I really dont know what it is. There does not seem to be any abnormal or otherwise ill effects. Wish I could help.

I had a cat that started having seizures after being fixed, horrible to watch. We read a lot and found this medicine on a web site. http://www.allergicpet.com They have a product (vet select seizure formula), lots of testimonials on there if I can remember right. I have about half a bottle left that I will give you if you want. I also have some drops that I will give you. All these things are 100% natural. Our cat did not make it, it was having about 6 seizures a day, the medicine seemed to slow it down, but not a complete solution, but this cat had been bumped by a car on the head. Pm me if you want these pills.

I know it is tough to watch the dog have these seizures. My last Lab had them really bad, to the point it actually paralyzed one of his back legs. Be careful and observant if he has the next seizure when he gets excited. My last Lab got to the point he would have a seizure every time I came home. We even had him on the doggy equivalent of dechodron for a while, but that changesd his whole personnality. I eventually could not stand to see him in the agony of the seizures and paralasis and had to put him down at 6 years old. My suggestion would be get to the vet and get him started on the lowest dose of meds possible, and see how he reacts and hope for the best. Best of Luck to you and the Lab.
