I know there was a thread about this. Here is what I found out. The adhesive that holds the keel guard in place is made by 3M. It is a double sided tape that is applied to the rubber in the manufacturing process. You can't buy it anywhere.
I had about 5 inches of my keel guard coming off at the back end. Clean the old adhesive off using acetone and a scraper taking care to not dig in the fiberglass or the rubber. (it took me about two hours. It is very tedious) The people at Keel Guard told me to use one of the following epoxies - Devcon, anchor tite, perma flex or flex net - I used Devcon high strenght two ton epoxy. Apply to both the rubber and the fiberglass and epoxy in place. Be sure to keep pressure on it during the working time - about thirty minutes. Looks like it adhered well. Have not had it back in the water yet.

I used a spray brake cleaner (from Wal-Mart) to remove a damaged Keel Shield (they sent a replacement, no charge). It is just about the only product that will easily dissolve the glue and not hurt the finish on your boat, and was suggested by the manufacturer of Keel Shield. Thanks for the heads-up on the adhesives to use for small repairs!! emoThumbsup

I recently installed the keel shield on my boat and after I installed I went to my local hardware store and bought a tube of Goop marine adhesive and put a bead around the whole thing. Hopefully that will make mine last longer. What did you all hit to make yours come off?

Is it ready for Old Hickory? When you leaving, Wed AM myself........ emoGeezer emoUSA

All set. Wed. AM is the plan.
Hurt my back, probably working on the boat. Going to the chiropractor today. Went Saturday and it is feeling a little batter. Still very tender.

I beach on a concrete ramp with no dock, so I get years of constant wear, but the problem was that I hit a sharp edge of concrete under the water at winter pool at a ramp and sliced the keel shield. I have never had other release problems, but I used 3M adhesive sealant around mine too (recommended by keel shield).

Ouch. So I guess I will keep in mind no sharp objects or stumps. So far I am totally satisfied with mine, especially after I won it on eBay for $50.
