First of all thanks for the concern about our safety on the lake. We are all fine, a little shaken, but fine. Thursday there was a very serious boating accident. A team from Indiana hit a stump, the motor broke off the transom, swung up into the boat and landed on the driver. They had to fly him out. First reports were that they would have to amputate his right arm. Last thing I heard was that they may save the arm, but he had very severe nerve damage. The guy in the passenger side was luckily thrown into the front of the boat or he would have been killed, thats where the still high revving lower unit landed. The lake was about 6 foot down and there were lots of places, even inside the secondary channel markers that were very shallow. The lake was very rough during the few practice days we had. Like JSV said, the first T day ( Sat.) was cancelled due to severe thunderstorms, flooding, tornadoes and very high winds. So Sunday was for all the marbles.
Fishing report: We never did really find any kind of pattern Thur. or Fri. Only 7 fish, 3 keepers on Thurs. and 3 fish on Fri. with no keepers. I decided to just go flippin boat houses and Marinas on Sunday. I had the bites but couldnt get them in the boat. Had a 3 pounder and a 2.5 pounder come unbuttoned right at the boat and broke off on a big fish. Only managed to weigh 2 fish, just keepers, 4.01 pounds. You have heard the story before, we could have placed pretty high in the money if we would have landed the fish. We fished Moores Marina on Kentucky lake ( thanks BassinBob) and the Marina next to Barkley dam. 16.11 pounds won the T, 10 pounds to get a check. It payed 16 places and nice 250 dollar product packages for 17th and 18th place.
This was a very well run tournament, the people were all great, several very nice draw prices and first place was a PT 190 Tracker boat with a 115 horse motor. Next year promises to be alot better, possibly a Nitro glass boat for first. USA is seeing tremendous growth, last year the classic had 85 boats, this year 159, it started in 2003 with only 16 boats. I am going to fish it again next year and want to invite all of yall to do so also. You will hear more about it later.
