Just had to share this picture of Ken Burton and his two youngsters, William and Melinda, from Prattville, AL. I sure would like to know what William is thinking? emoConfused
We didn't absolutely slay 'em tonight... but the youngsters got a great catfishing lesson and had great fun. We actually caught a lot more channel cats tonight than I've been catching. I was messing around with Melinda and told her to hold her mouth just right and try to catch a blue cat. Lo and behold her rod bowed down and she had the one and only blue we caught this evening. And with all the skipjack in the jumps looking so tempting, we had to stop catfishing and let them do battle with a few river herring for a while. Throwing a sabiki rig they regularly caught 2, 3 or even 4 at a time. It was just an all-around "fun" fishing trip.

Great Report - I'm willing to bet that you may have captured the spontaneous glory of "Oh Yeah, I just figured out my fish is Bigger!" grin of satisfaction and now I have cat fever in that pic! I bet a couple future catfish anglers for sure emoThumbsup

That's a good picture. Too bad they didn't get hooked up on a whopper but it still looks like they had a great time.

Way to go Richard. I know that that family had fun fishing with you. What is it with all the channels and not many blues?emoScratch It's just great to be out fishing with kids.emoGeezer

RE: few blues
Kind of strange... I'm thinking the blues are moving out of tailwaters back to some deepwater haunts? Or it may have just been "one of those days." I'll have a better idea after the next few days. And actually whisler, Melinda hooked up a couple of real nice channels... probably 6-to-8 lbs. each. And as you know, those channels fight like demons, especially on the light tackle I use in tailwaters. I just let her "handle 'em" on her own and both came unbuttoned at the boat. But no, we never really went looking for "big fish."

You are probably right about the blues beginning to move back to their deep water haunts. They are beginning to show up in the summer/fall deep places that I look for them for now. As you know, I like to fish "edges" of the old river channel and look for cuts in the delta structures that are prevelant in Chickamauga. Mid August to late October and beyond is the best time of the year for me as far as catching blues and a lot of fish over 25-30 pounds.emoThumbsup emoGeezer
