Just to let you guys know, I'm not a crappie fisherman. However I did take time off from bass fishing this past weekend to try my luck in the world of crappie fishing.
Though I didn't set the world on fire, I managed to catch about a dozen crappie, six of which were keepers. The fish came on brush piles in about 12' of water in the bays. (The water temp was 57 degrees) I caught them on little crappie tubes (char/red) rigged on a 1/16 oz char. jig head. I tried several different methods during the trip, even live minnows, but they would only hit the little tubes and they had to be cast to the brush pile. If you went over the pile with the boat, you might as well go to the next one. It seemed to spook the fish.
