Had a few hours free this morning before company comes and thought I would hit the Bass again. Got out about 8:30 and rigged up the dropshot and gulp 4" minnow. I know I am in a rut, but Drumking said to stay on them until they changed pattern. Same area I have been fishing, large flat with some shell close to deeper creek channel. Marked a lot of fish and some bait, the early bite was a little slow, and the fish were very average. Couldn't get hooked up with anything much bigger than about 2.5#. Was just fishing vertical, around my marker in ever larger circles, trying to find some active fish. Did get some excitement, set the hook on a heavy fish and the fun began. Long line burning run, with me trying to keep up with the trolling motor. Then back the other way and another long run. I was hoping striper, but not quite sure. After some more struggles ended up with a 14.5# DRUM emoBang . Really shouldn't complain, he put up an excellent fight and pulled my string hard. What more can you ask for, lol.
While I was sitting there saw a small float plane take off from the Wolftever Bridge area, and brought back memories of my time in Canada on Lake of the Woods. We used to fly-in on float planes all the time. Add to that We had Walleye for dinner last night (thanks bentrod) with all the shore lunch fixings, fried potatoes, baked beans, sliced tomatoes and onions, homemade tarter sauce, and bread and jam emoHungry . Brings back a lot of good memories.
About 10:30 the wind started to get up, and the fish started to get more active. Gator and his friend stopped by and while we were chatting I had a good hit and had a pretty good bass on. I messed up and let him get up and of course he jumped and threw the hook. Nice fish, I should have been paying more attention. Caught a couple more, and a couple 4-5# blue cats and then Polo and M17Glock stopped by and started to fish with me a bit. Next to show was Drumking, seemed like a CFF get together. I had to leave shortly thereafter, ended with 12 bass, 10 were keepers, 2 smalls, largest about 3.25#, 2 drum, 3 cats and a couple of yellow bass on a spoon.
Good to see all the guys out on the lake, and DK and I are going to assualt some crappie next week. Polo, glad you are back on the water. I have been trying to hold the fort for you, lol.
Regards, Labman
