any of you out there fish lafayette lake? i just moved here from just up the road and had never fished it.
its about 160 acres with 25 ft deep holes really nice water ive only fished there a handful of times caught cats everytime all channels in the 2-3lb range and some crappie and small bass, but last night i was taking out and a guy in a fairly new triton was pulling out i watched him release a 6.5+ lb bass andhe said he had caught another the same size and 7 others in the 1-3 lb range the fatter of the 2 he weighed at 6.5lbs. the other was longer but had already spawned. he said he always catches atleast 1 in the 4plus range, any of you seeing this kind of action here if so what on? the lake seems to get a fair amount of fishing pressure and i just never really expected quality bass like that.

I fished this lake alot in the early 90s. I have seen several BIG fish in this lake. One of the biggest i saw was on my partners rod - he borrowed the spinning rig from someone, forgot to set the drag (which was tightened all the way down - he didnt realize it at the time). he caught the fish on a rapala shad rap (we caught several 1 to 3 pounders on this rapala, kind of an aqua color). Anyway, this fish was close to played, and i had the landing net. I reached over the jon boat to net this thing, and it turned, went straight down, and SNAPPED the 12 lb test like thread...we were both sick, especially after he realized the drag was tight (and that it was his only shad rap!!!) i believe a basketball could have fit in this bass' mouth...really...

also, my cousin (George) was fishing here with a fellow he worked with (SI industries), and they have pics of a stringer of bass that were all over three pounds (they released them back to the lake - it was some kind of tournament they were in or something).

i have not fished there in many years though...

just yesterday i was pounding the bank riprap aroung the spill way at dusk i landed 2 about 3lbs or so really nice dark colored bass and lost one other then right at dark caught one i would assume would go atleast 6 he was the largest bass i have ever caught and ive landed 2 in farm ponds that i weighed at 5.6 and 5.1 and a 6 on lake seminole a few years back and i am sure this guy was bigger i really didnt look at him too much i didnt have a scale or a camera and just wanted to get him back in the water
but honestly thats the first bass action ive seen there but ive spent most of my time lookin for cats.

thanks soggysod
