Has anyone fished Lake Fontana? Looks like I'm taking a trip there in March. Would like to know baits and gear I need to focus on taking.

Went there for a weekend with the family. Didn't fish but took a pontoon ride. Extremely deep lake on the lower end. That's where we had our cabin. Drove across the dam. SCARY!! When it was built it was the 3rd or 4th tallest east of the Mississippi. Something like 450' tall. The marina where we took our pontoon ride was in a slough. It was like 135' deep in that slough. Been a few years ago so I don't remember much more than that.

Id be trolling along the banks with deep diving cranks hoping to catch something cool like a walleye or a lake trout.

I've caught lots of smallmouth at Fontana, but it's been several years ago.
Brown and orange hair jigs and always productive black.
Just about all winter fishing..
Never fished it as late as March.

I remember steep cliff like banks. A guy I fished with would sometimes target the debris that gathers in the end of coves as cover. Also, with so many long running fingers on it, you can become disoriented. If you don't have a map, take notice on where you're at.
