Lake Hartwell

I know it is on the Savannah River, I-85 crosses over it, and is in both SC and GA. It has blueback herring as its primary forage. It is above Lake Russel and Clarks Hill. I have a friend that lives down there that fishes it quite a bit and he loves it.

I grew up around Anderson SC and fished Hartwell a lot with my dad and uncle. I was a kid then and didn't pay much attention to where and how the fish were caught I just know we caught a bunch. From what I remember it's a lot like the Chick in a lot of ways. They drop the water way down every winter so finding shallow grass is tough until summer when the water has been up for a while. Lots and lots of private docks and marinas. Current flow is a key factor when fishing there. I'm not sure what you'll be fishing for or what part of the lake you'll in, but it has a good population of stripe/ white/ hybrid bass, yellow perch, crappie & largemouth. I don't think we ever caught a smallmouth out of there. Hope that helps!
