Lake Jack is my lake/pond here at the house!!emoLaugh

The Gals got all dressed up in their Sunday finest this morning, we went to sunrise service, got home, ate way to much, Mrs. Jack and I both called are Mom's, ect....

Had a wonderful Easter Sunday!

Around 7:00 pm I noticed lots of activity on the top of the water in the lake. Grabbed the ultralight and ran out back to fish a while before dark!

The fish were absolutely killing it!! Caught a fish on about every third cast! Caught 10+ bass, 30 + crappie, and around a dozen bream!

The fish were holding tight on structure, a VERY light bite, slow presentation, 1/16 oz Kalin jig, 6 - 9 foot of water, unknown water temp, ect.......

Now before I finish this report, I must tell you this........

The dam washed out on my lake three years ago, the water level dropped four feet. There was a big fish die off a couple of months later, due to low water, and hot temps.

I was about to spend a bunch of $$$ to rebuild the dam, when a family of beavers moved in an had it rebuilt in a week!!! Now they are about to become a nusance, since they are now eating ever tree in site! HAH!!

But I restocked with grass carp, blue gill, hybrid bream, crappie, and bass. Put out a bunch of structure for the crappie, ect....

There are still plenty of big bass and bream in the lake, the crappie appear to be making a good come back!!

All of the crappie I caught late this afternoon were SLABS!!!emoLaugh Most were 6-7 inches!! The bass were about the same! The "bite" was best the last hour of daylight!

How is that for a fine fishing report?!?!?emoToast

I am including some pics of the hawgs and slabs, and of Lake Jack!! The last picture is waves from a big bass hitting something on the top of the water, or a 60 lbs. sack of concrete fell off a plane flying over the lake! Either way, something DIED!!

In a year or two this could replace Lake Weiss as the "Crappie Capital Of The World"!!!emoLaugh

Whereabout do you live in Villanow Jack? I might have to slip in sometime and catch some of them hawgs and slabs.emoLaugh

Hold on, let me get my glasses, I thought I saw the Hawgs and Slabs. Let me check again.
Sounds like the entire day was a Fantastic Easter Sunday. Thanks for the report and those pics of those awsome fish.emoTongue

Looks like loads o' fun! Maybe, when I get some heavier gear, you'll share Lake Jack w/ me and see if I can land some'm whoppers!emoLaugh

Mine might have your's beat...and outta big water (the Chick!)emoToast

You might wanna start harvesting some of the smaller fish, especially the crappie or you will have stunted fish, unless those are the ones you stocked. There's only so much food to go around in a small body of water. Nice report!

Cute!!!! Nice to see you training those fish early on as to what their expectation can be for their future. Teach them to cooperate while they are young and you won't have any trouble posting catches of great fish in the future. They won't be as apt to be unruly and uncooperative if you start them out young.

Honestly ... I envy you .. having a lake named after yourself and your own private fishing pond. :)

Cheez,

I live about three miles north of Villanow off Hwy 201. If you leave Villanow headed North on 201. Pass the old Salem United Methodist Church on your right, and start looking for a big pond on your right about a half a mile north. If you look across the pond, I live in the white house on the far side.

Liveliner,

I recommend at the least some high power braided Spiderwire 50+ with a heavy action rod. And if you was to bring a younger kid, tie him in the boat or to the big oak in the back! I will not be responsible for young'uns jerked into the water from the vicious stirkes!!emoLaugh

BackontheWater,

Without a doubt I think I have you covered up in the smallest fish category!! My hawg was a way bunch smaller than your hawg!!emoLaugh I think the picture of your bass was "digitally enhanced" to make it look smaller! Mine was a real life dink!!emoPoke

Churly,

I do think most of the fish I caught yesterday were fish I stocked in the pond. I have been told the best indicator of pond health is bream size. All big bream means the larger fish are eating them as fast as they can reproduce. I have got a wide range of bream, from tiny to large bluegill and redear. When the fish kill happened a few years ago, it was mainly big bass and big bream that died. I did not take an exact count, but I probably had 150 bass, and 500 bream dead. It would be safe to say that 6 or 8 of the bass were in the 8-10 pound range.

TT,

If them little rascals only knew what I was thinking while I was holding them up and looking at them.....

They would never bite again!! I was thinking and wondering just what size fillet I may get off of them next year, and release the fillets not into Lake Jack, but Lake Crisco!!emoHungry

Now a question for you fellows.....

Both Arkansas and Georgia have duckweed, the green stuff that grows/blooms on the top of the water and can choke a pond. It is very easy to kill! No problem.

I do not know what other states have "water meal", but Georgia has it, and it is almost impossible to control/kill unless you have mega $$$ to throw at the problem! If you research water meal, it is the SMALLEST flowering plant in the world. By the time it floats to the top as the tiny green flower, it has already dropped the seeds for next year.

The only chemical that seems to be effective on water meal is "Sonar". Enough Sonar to treat Lake Jack would cost around $3500!!emoEek

I cant remember the name of the stuff I used last year, but it was $140/gallon, and I ended up buying two gallons. The two gallons lasted until about mid June, and I was sick and tired of trying to spray a 3 acre lake twice a week.

Does anyone have a CHEAP home remedy to rid a lake of water meal????

Here is one link to watermeal from the University of Tennessee...

would grass carp help?emoQuestion

Nope!!

Grass carp are not really considered effective on watermeal unless you have 200 per acre, 3 acres X 200 = 600 grass carp at $8 each.........equals $4800!!!emoEek

I put 30 grass carp in the lake three years ago, they have done a really good job of cleaning the slime/moss from the bottom! They were 7-8 inches long when I put them in the lake. I see them all the time while fishing, most of them are now at least three feet long!! Huge!

But I aint gonna spend that kinda of bucks on a fish I cant eat!!!

Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahhahahahahah

I think I know about where you are. Occaisionally we go to Dalton and we go over Dug Gap out Joe Roberson Rd. Villanow was my stompin grounds several yaers ago. I've got several friends over there.
