Sorry for the late post but...I put in at Chester Frost and tried the Wolf with no luck. The wind really cranked up and I started fishing the back of one of the little sloughs close to Chester Frost. Caught 14 crappie (6 keepers). Had the boad sitting in about 5 feet of water and caught most of the fish using a black/blue/white grub on a 1/16 jig head (get this) under a cork fishing about 3 feet deep. Two fish hit a red/chartreuse jig. We would pick up an occasional bluegill and caught a decent warmouth.

I tried to find more fish in comparable areas but couldn't locate any more.

I can't believe I was fishing that shallow under a cork in the middle of winter.

I released them to fight another day.

Great report bluewave! Do you have any pictures of the fish? I was wondering if you knew if the fish you were catching were white or black crappies. From what I've read, the whites tend to be a more shallow water fish that likes the water with a bit more color than the black crappies.

I had the camera in the boat but never gave it a second thought. I was actually hoping to find at least about 4 more keepers so they could decorate a plate. Sorry. But.......to the best of my knowledge, I think they were white crappie.

I'll try to remember to capture some photos for future posts.

Polo-dog,

After seeing DK's recent post and your and Fishin Fool's links I'm pretty sure all were black crappie.

Thanks for the link guys.

I was thinking that maybe the fish that you were catching might have been white crappies because you caught them shallower than most of the fish that we have been catching but maybe I was wrong.
