I pulled my cover off my boat to let it air out and thought I would warm up the motor. I put the ear muffs on and hit the ingnition a few times and then the starter started free spinning. I thought "son of a b@#th!" I popped the cowl off and noticed the starter bolt had worked there way loose. The top bolt had completly fallen out. I found it tightened them all down good and it fired right up. I knew you are supposed to check your bolts every so often, but I have just kept forgeting. I'll never make that mistake again. That would have really sucked if it would have happened on the water.

I worked on my boat today for 2-3 hours. Letting it get some sun as well.

But ht26 - where would I find the starter bolts? I'd like to check that out as well. Just like you I put the ear muffs on the motor and started it - my motor ran fine though. I'd just like to check out the starter bolts, whatever and wherever they are!

Thanks!

The starter will be located just below your flywheel somewhere. It has a spring and a gear that turns the flywheel when you hit the key. The bolts holding it on is what I'm talking about. I was suprized that all the bolt holding it on were a little loose.

make sure you check the bolts in the top mainbearing carrier (OMC) directly under the flywheel. there kinda easy to over look about a 7/16 or 3/8 thick cap bolt....about 8 of them.

If you`ve got an hour or two I can tell you what kind of grief they can cause if they get loose.emoBang emoBang
