Let me know when Lyerly Dam heats up

I guess it's getting close to time for the crappie to run at Lyerly. Any of you LaFayette, Summerville or Trion guys hear the word, I'd like to know. Just recently laid off from work and need to take some of this time to drag a few to the skillet.

Jeff I will start by saying welcome to the CFF. Right now and for the next 2 months or so Lyerly dam is good. However the expected heavy rain tonight and tomorrow will muddy up the Chattooga some. By probably Monday the mud will clear up and the crappie bite will too. The dam area is not as good as it was a few years ago due to the dam breaking. There still are some nice fish to be had there though. Let us know how you do down there.

and if you can't get the crappies to bite, go up to the river section of the dam, both above and below the bridge area, and get some of those sunnies. Finest eating fish out there.

Are the big gar still swimming at the dam? There are some sheer monsters that come up for air there.

Thanks for the welcome!I was totally suprised and very happy to find this forum.

I was last at Lyerly this past spring. Didn't see any gar then, but did meet a couple of guys in there throwing spinnerbaits for some of those big stripers that run up there. That was a new approach on me, but makes sense. Was told a spinnerbait really produces in the fast water. I'm gonna be busy this weekend, but I just gotta make a run down there next week sometime if the crappie are in there now. I'll be sure to give a report. Also gonna make a trip to Sloppy Floyds real soon with my canoe,( I've a 'Fishing Buddy' fish finder on it), and give the crappie a workout there.

Just a follow up, (I already posted in the report section), no dice on the crappie yesterday at Lyerly. I'm gonna wait for the weather to settle down again then give them another shot.emoRain
