Kim (aka bassbullet) and I decided to give Lincoln county a shot again to try our luck seeing how she killed a nice 10ptr over there two years ago on her first trip ever to the woods so we left out this past friday around lunch to get an evening hunt in and hunt again saturday morning. We got to the woods around 2:30 or so friday and we decided Kim would hunt on top of the ridge since she had her climber and I would hunt in the honey hut at the bottom. Making a long story short, I saw zilch friday evening and was waiting on Kim to come down as it was getting dark quickly only not to hear from her. I text her and when she was climbing down she got about 2 feet from the ground and all of a sudden the deer arose from everywhere. She was surrounded by them one with "his" nose on the ground looking for possibly a girlfriend I guess emoHeart . She never was able to make out what the deer were as it was now dark and the moon was getting brighter. She waited and they finally walked on off and we would be ready for the morning hunt. A quick dinner at Shoneys and off to sleep cuz 4:00 was coming early. We began the morning by getting in pretty early (still dark) and Kim busted a few going to her stand that morning. The sunrise came and I was getting pumped thinking this is gonna be an awesome morning, cold, crisp air, no wind, shooting stars, perfect. About 7:30 I look in the field by a cedar thicket and a small 4 pointer steps out looking hard for him a doe to tend to and around 7:45 about 250 yards away I see one then another right behind her. I couldn't make out any horns but knew the second one was probably a buck. I watched those two run and chase each other for a brief time, then they disappeared. About 8 or so I look down by the cedar thicket and here comes a doe. I made enough noise to catch her attention, woops, but she made the fatal mistake of coming on towards me. She quartered just to her left, put the cross hairs on her front right shoulder and emoEnforce boom, she jumped and headed to the cedar thicket. I knew I made a good shot based on how she jumped and took off. Then I looked and here's a buck that was following behind her. Decent deer so I decided what the heck he's broadside, booom, he then continues to walk around looking. I did try and squeeze the shot thru a little brush and obviously hit a branch and the ballistic tip failed to make contact. After a couple of minutes pass he decides to come on out into the field past some high sage brush and stand quartering to his left. Well I gave it a second shot to his front right shoulder and down he goes, doesn't flinch a bit. I decided I had two down, had heard Kim shoot earlier so I figured that was enough so I went to look for the doe and although I didn't find any blood she was about 20 yards in the cedar thicket piled up emoHungry emoHungry venison in the freezer.....I text Kim and she said she hit the doe she shot at so I headed up to the ridge to help look and see if we could find her deer. She had already gotten down and found a wad of white hair but no blood, not even spray around the hair. She looked down in the holler but we never did find her deer emoConfused ..It's now about 1030 so we decided we had work ahead so we began collecting my two and the work began. All in all we had a great time with success and opportunities that allowed both of us to see and chase the elusive whitetail
