Line Counters anyone?

I want to start trying some controlled depth trolling. From what I have read, speed and length of line are critical to controlling the depth. On to my question -- I have one reel with a line counter, and before purchasing more reels, I would like to know if anyone has used clip-on line counters? If they work satisfactorily, I will get a couple, but if they are not very good I'd rather not waste my money.

clip on counters break pretty easy, getting a Okuma magna 15 from north woods outlet isn't a whole lot more.

Thanks, all. I accidentally fount North Woods outlet and thank you, Bullshot, for the recommendation. I have two Okumas on order now, as well as a copy of Buck Perry's "Spoonplugging" book.
