i have a friend that wants to get into hunting the smartest predator in alabama and wants to know if it is legal to use live bait because coyotes are not protected animal does any body know if it is legal thanks

Its not leagal in TN, probably aint in AL. Tell your buddy to invest in one of the new electronic predator calls. They work.

Damned-skippy they work! When I was a kid, we used a modified tape recorder (mega-phone wired into a junk tape-recorder)...Up North, it was permitted to hunt them at night. Put dying-rabbit tape in the tape recorder and wait for the "eyes" to come across the field. Made A LOT of beer money that way! Pretty sure you cant hunt them at night here yet though....

... you might want to ask "what is considered live bait" or how it is presented? A rabbit or mouse in a gage, or staked out, injured or what? All you want the "bait" to do is make noise. I don't know for sure but it looks like it would make a big difference? But it also looks like that the electronics would be a lot easier!?

You did not say what your live bait would be. You may have a problem if you were to use your puppy dogs or your neighbor's cat. Whole dead chickens have worked very well for me in the past. Live chickens in a pen should draw the yotes in for you.

emoScratch plenty of house cats around? stake them out and let them scream and squall, win, win emoIdea emoSorry had to do it.
