i need to replace my thru-hull pump and i am wondering if there is a big difference between 500GPH and 800GPH.if you were buying what brand and size would you get? thanks emoScratch

Why in the world would you want a live well pump you can't catch any fish to put in the well,Oh wait a minute you are fixing it up for when i am in your boat right! LOL

Haha he beat me to it! emoTongue

Whats the price difference between the 2? If there wasn't a big difference then I would go 800, but 500 would be more than enough.

800 it is but is rule the brand to buy? terry who ever is in the back of my boat catches 0 fish. i guess we r in trouble.lol

I went from a 500 to an 800 and it didn't cost much more at all. I got an Attwood pump . It's great ! Found it at Academy.

The new ones that pop off the tubing is the way to go, when the motor goes bad you just twist it off and put new replacement motor on===no replacing the pvc anymore....

Larry, look at the tsunami ones at academy 800 is the way to go and if it burns up you replace the motor only and we have replacement motors in stock also. quick change and nothing has to be disconnected

check to see what you have in your boat now , you could only need to replace a cartridge . they are alot cheaper than buying a whole new pump . if you have to buy a new pump ,I would go with johnson/mayfair pumps, they last for many years .

I would definitely go back with the original GPM, if you didn't have any problems before. It's tempting to to think more is better but too much water can deslime the fish and from that point, it's just a matter of time, before the fish start mooning you. As far as brands go, I think proper installation, is more important. Not sure if this is still accurate but rule of thumb formula used to be, to change the water 6 times an hour. A 500 GPM pump could handle a 80+ gallon live well, under perfect piping conditions. Most live wells have a couple of diffusing nozzles, which act will act as a flow restrictor and bringing the water turnover rate, inline with the 6 times per hour. The 800 GPM would most likely use more battery.
