Lock at the chick.

I wondered what would happen when it came time to appropriate more $$ to finish it given the pressure to cut govt spending. Hate to see them stop working after all they've spent.

Not to mention that the Corp of engineer idiots are still concerned that the old locks may have to be shut down!

The "Tax Payers" in Fiddle Fart, Iowa will tell you it's just another "Pork Barrel" spending project. We'll soon get to see what our newly elected 3rd dist congressman does.

This is where logical Americans can decipher between pork barrel, and necessity. Funding millions of dollars to study wolves in Colorado, and replacing a lock which serves millions of people with goods and services are two different things.

Key word "logical"

Where is the "logic" in electing some of the "leaders" we have in this country.

Would this be logical? How about letting the local businesses who benefit from the lock raise or donate the money to fix it instead of putting it on taxpayers backs.

If I remember right, barges do already pay additional fees, but I believe there is some argument on whether its enough.

Guys, lets also remember the GVT uses these locks as well, its not just evil capitalist's that need this to be repaired.

Highways, bridges, dams, etc. are the things I believe the tax-payers SHOULD be paying for. We all benefit from these, either in transportation, security, (flooding), and keeping the cost of goods down.

The capitalist will do it better and faster than the gov't will. So let them have at it.

Do you know why the TVA even exists? The main reason the Federal Gov't built TVA was because the "For Profit" Capitalist companies did not see this area being profitable enough to bring flood control and electricity here, and showed no interest in doing so. This area was one of the last populated areas in the USA to have electricity. Think about that next time you pay your electric bill which btw is a full 2cents per kw hour less than the Nat'l average. Why do you think the Gov't set up the Medicare system? It's because the health insurance companies can't make a profit insuring the elderly.
