If heading up river, with the construction there now you are supposed to call and stay well back by the barge tie-ups. I also pull up right after I call anyway.
Thanks for the help, thinking of trying it for the first time this weekend and didnt want to get myself in trouble. Now as long as one of those mega cruisers doesnt run me over, all should be well.
Make sure to have some razor blade on deck in case something crazy happens and you need to cut a rope , they don't untie too easily with heave load on them.
Never tie your boat up Tyler. Always loop the rope around one of the floating bits and hold both ends so I'd something happens you let go. I promise its safer to. Let go and float around than the risk of your boat raising or going under if the bit hangs
The regs say you have to tie up, but I only throw the line over the "cleat" they have in there. I have gone through about 8 times or more now and its really easy.
Spurhunter is right. Just loop it over. I sit in my drivers seat the whole time and lock thru I've done it this way in pretty much every state in the south where you can lock
