Went yesterday afternoon down to Long Island. The spots have pulled back up on the island just like they do in the spring. Cauught them all evening on a white spinnerbait, but you had to throw right next to wooded cover. Fish would hit within a foot or two of he stumps. Most were small but I had a few keepers. I love to fish that way when those conditions are right

Long Island is located on the Tennessee river just down from South Pittsburgh.. Lots of wood cover on the shore for those spots to pull up on..... fishing is best when they are realeasing water out of nickajack....fish on the main channel side of the island

sandskeeter, have you ever fished the steam plant down that way? I am wondering how the fishing is in the winter. I don't know if widows creek is still functional, but if it has a warm water influence on the river then I figure there might be some good fishing nearby.

DHaun, the plant is very functional... ;) I haven't fished over there this year yet, but I plan on it soon. Last time I fished around it, it was over 90 degress and bluebird skys.

I haven't been around Long Island since I was a kid. Next time yall are around the area, let me know.

Burns Island is right down river from the dam. It is nearly 2 miles long. It starts at Mile Marker 420.

Bridgeport Island (Long Island) is located in Bridgeport and is 5 miles long. About a half mile of the lsland is in TN.

DHaun I have never fished the plant in the winter but in the early spring I know the stripe run up in the little cove where they discharge the water.... Lot of gar in there tooo...... In the spring i like to fish crankbaits down the riprap along the steam plant... I would think that it would be a great winter place... warm water and lots of current coming out of there...

Actually, DHAUN, the Stevenson Bridge ramp is less than 5 miles from the plant. My map is showing South Pittsburg nearly 10 miles (closest ramp in S.Pittsburg) to the plant. If it was me, I'd put in at the bridge, it is a great ramp with plenty of parking and 2 ramps...

If your coming down this way, let me know alright?

Thanks Tater. Is the plant in TN or AL water. Where is the Stevenson Bridge Ramp? My mom's family is from that area but I have never fished it so I am not sure where the ramp is? I might want to try the plant when it gets a bit cooler. You ever go striper fishing?

-Thanks
David

The plant is in AL waters. The ramp is right beside the bridge that goes over the river to the mountain on HWY 117. If you get off of 72W and turn left, you will go maybe 2 miles and the bridge is right there. You cant miss the ramp. It used to be a gravel parking lot and a ramp that was less than gravel. It used to be a good ramp back in the day. But they came in and a made a new one with a floating dock and two ramps. Paved the entire parking lot also. Real nice place.

That is where I plan on having my Tournaments out of Guntersville.

This is a prefect example of where a reciprocal license would be handy... emoToast

Never been striper fishing, but I have caught some small ones while bass fishing. Caught 2 last summer at Scottsbor while fishing a Baby 1- over the grass. Like I said, let em know when you are in the area. emoThumbsup
