I have been looking for a new engine and know one will tell what kind of gas mileage the new DI are getting. I am looking at a 175. Does anyone have a honda and how do you like them.
I do not know the mileage but most people I talk to suggest in this order: Yamaha, Mercury, Evinrude. I have actually been considering a new 175 Suzuki. I hear the Honda's can be expensive to work on.
I have heard good and bad about the hondas. One thing to consider is how many people near you work on hondas. Having good reliable service is as important as the brand(at least it is to me). Good luck
The boat can have a lot to do with fuel econ. Some boat are much better than others. If you have a heavy boat you may get better milage from a larger motor at less rpm...
According to this test the Optimax got the best mileage and had the best performance. To top all that off you can get a Merc worked on anywhere just about. http://www.bwbmag.com/output.cfm?id=1122463
I would go with the 175 Yamaha HPDI they are cheaper than the merc and E-tec and fuel milage is so close between the 3 its just a matter of which one you like better. We sell more yamaha outboards than any other brand here a chattanooga fishnfun. I have also never seen a yamaha with the 2.6 liter block come back with any major problems. But thats just me All the new DI engines are good engines just pick which one you think would look better hanging off the back of your boat. A cool looking 2 stroke or a big heavy sluggish 4 stroke. If you want performance go with the 2 stroke hands down.
