Looking for a 50 - 80 hrsp outboard motor

I recently purchased a boat and it has a 130 hrsp motor. Being inexperienced did not realize to much motor for the boat. It run great but WOW thats just to much. I am looking for less pwr. Any suggestions where to look or anyone who might want to trade.

Just back off the throttle and keep it in a comfortable range. I have a 55 HP and would lover to have more. Usually the best operating range is not WOT all the time. Back it off and cruise to get the best fuel economy. Once you get the hang of it youlll want more and you'll be calling these guys up begging how to get more out of it.

Listen to Andy. Once you get used to it you will want more. Hear it all the time! Is it a Yamaha 130?

Thanks guys. It is a Johnson. My concern is the boat is but 16ft. Will this get me in trouble with the man.

What is the boat rated for .. should be a US coast guard plate that sez max HP for the boat .. 130 does sound tad high for 16ft .. if it sez its the max then your fine .. if it sez lower, and you ever get stopped by game warden, or coast guard you in hot water.
What brand of boat , yr and model ?

That has to be a late model engine to be a 130 95-2000. That is a looper and they are STOUT! Maybe you can talk a trade with NRG for his 85HP. His would be good for yours and yours would be good for his. There is a start. Bet if a experienced person dorve it it would be FUN!!!!LOL!!

mine in a 88 SPL .. just a 90 with no oil injection VRO, and is a 1989, up to you redbank

I am willing to trade if we can work it out. I have no idea about how to go about switching out the motors.

The controls will need to be swapped. The 96-up engines use smart tach and the older ones do not. They make a adapter but if you just keep the copntrols with the engine they came off of there is no need in it, just switch out the throttle and shift cables if different lenths. Swap out tachs due to smart tach and go to the water. You guys can call me if any questions.
