Waterdog101 posted a Remington 742 30-06 woodmaster for sale on here back on 1/17. It never showed as sold. Go back a few days and see if he ever sold it if you are interested. That is the same gun I have used since 1980. Sweet gun and will last a life time if taken care of. emoThumbsup
I would say get the 270. It is a good flat shooting gun. I have the Remington 700 ADL that i got at the beggining of 2010's deer season. I have shot many deer with it. And alot at 300-350 yards. I shoot a 130 grain soft tip. Thats just my suggesting. A 30-o6 wont shoot as far and shoot flat. I have mine set about an inch hight at 100 yards and at 300 its dead on. at 350 holding at a deers back ill hit it in the lungs.
A buddy of mine has a nice Howa in 270 with a niko sterling 3-9x 40 scope, it's blued with a black synthetic stock and a soft rifle case for $325. Lemme know if thats of interest and I can give you his number
A good buddy of mine just sold a greay Ruger M77 270 with a simmons 3-9-54 scope. Had push button safety. And it was set dead on at 100 yards and we pulled it out at 328 yards and shot it and it was still dead on. We didnt allow a bit. It was a good collecter type gun and he sold it for 400 about 3 weeks ago.
All good suggestions, but if the price is right on a .243 or 6mm I would jump on it too. This is an excellent caliber for deer and if you ever intend to pass it on to a wife or kid at some point, it's more of a pleasure to shoot IMO. I have killed many many deer with my 6mm. I do love my .270 though.
Don't let anyone steer you away from the .30-06, it's arguably one of the best multiuse guns there is. Heck it was a choice load for snipers in Vietnam. Carlos Hatchcock carried a Model 70 .30-06 and that is good enough for me
