hey: dont have any muskrat, but can you use any moose hair. i have a large tanned piece that i could sne you.billfish

I don't know.I suppose the fibers could be used for tails for trout flies. How would it work on jigs?
Does it flair out like deer hair does?I have been tieing some 1&1/2 oz. flair jigs for snook, reds, and tarpon.Would it work for that?
If I could get a raw muskrat hide just frozen that would be better than tanned, but that might make mailing problematic.I could pick up in the Clevland area easily as I live between Ducktown and Turtletown .I appreciate the offer of the moose, though. And Doc,Thanks for the link. There is a fly shop near me in Blue Ridge that has the little packages. The fresh hides still have the natural oils in the fur that make dry flies float longer and retain the color better when floatant is applied.

A lot of people I knew when I was a teen in WV used to trap animals, you hardly ever saw beaver, or muskrat in WV because so many did it .. since moving to TN I see them both everywhere I just assumed nobody did that any more .. or at least not around here .. I see the trapping is still alive and well
