Well Got the thermostats replaced .. still runs hot emoBang .. 190 on the right side around 140 on the left.. I pulled the water jackets off.. ewwewewwweee .. salt water sux .. full of junk .. well if that was the only issue.. 6 bolts broke off in the process so I guess I'm down till I get new heads ( Unless James thinks he can fix ? ) ... I would try to take the bolts out but prob wouldn't succeed .. a few broke off where you can get to them other are flush with the head .. my cheap motor getting more and more expensive all the time LOL this is getting to be insane laughter .. I was hoping Id get lucky but lately luck not doing so good for me !

I took the right head off to look at the back side .. cylinder walls look pretty good.. and I also will still have to pull the power head and replace the exhaust Gasket .. its leaking too .. the only good thing I can say about all this is when it is done it will be solid .. and I certainly know this motor inside and out now and learning more day by day .. But man Id rather be fishin emoScratch

Hindsight is always 20/20 huh? Guess you should have stripped it all the way down prior to the rebuild, but if your like me, I would have done it just the same as you! LOL

Sean, just go buy a new motor, comes with a 5 or 6 year warranty and put it on the new to you boat, your worries are over.emoLaugh

Bubbakat - 10/1/2009 4:51 PM NRG I have a good bubble back 135 power head if you need it. 1976 model I think.

That would have the wrong pattern. 77-97 is the same. If it is a 76 he would also need the adaptor to make it work.

Sean,
Since the are junk, bring them over. May be ble to mill them out. Would be next week before I could try.

Well looks like I will be on the water sometime next week after all emoParty .. found two good heads this morning thanx to Andy at Marine Specialty in Red Bank ! Love ya man .. your the best ! emoToast emoGrouphug If y'all need any service work me sure to give them a call!
As soon as I get my head gaskets in and the power head exhaust gasket .. and get it all back together again ..I will be trying this again .. cross your fingers and say a prayer for me . emoThumbsup

Maybe my luck aint as bad as I thought it might me after all .. heck it aint luck .. just God answering prayers .. gotta give credit , where its due .. Im just the passenger on this ride.. its all in his hands

Dont worry I will .. at this rate wont be much of the orig motor left .. So far .. New to me mid section, trim and tilt ( originally didnt have ) new heads , new solenoid , different prop, new head gaskets and exhaust / power head gasket, new thermostats. repaired several wires. new water pump and housing.
This is the last motor I buy that has seen saltwater .. that I can promise you! 90% of the issues have been salt water related or caused.
No wonder there is so many saltwater motors on eBay that are almost new!
