Well the 2 stroke gremlins are plauging me. Just go this boat about a month ago. Its a 20 Javelin with a 225 Johnson Venom. Motor was completely rebuilt last year. It has ran perfect until about a week ago it started hesitating when going from idle to WOT. It would bog down and take a minute or so to get going, then it would run perfect. Seemed like it would only do this after a run then stopping to fish. I replaced my fuel/water separator and put on a new bulb. Old one was squishy. Today I went for a run and it barely had any power to get on plane. Idles fine, just no power. Is this a clogged carb, and if so are they hard to rebuild for a first timer? Or do I need to look elsewhere? I only run non ethanol.

I have a canister style fuel/water separator... I replaced it and the bulb yesterday. The inline filter under the cowl looks clean.

Before you get to the carbs I would pull the fuel pump off and take a look at it. Kind of sounds like a fuel pump issue. The diaphragm inside the pump could have a small tear, which would cause it to not suck fuel properly. If that happens to be it, a rebuild kit runs $10-20 for most motors. Good luck!

In addition to a good OEM bulb, strongly consider changing your fuel lines from the tank to the engine with the current EPA certified ethanol resistant fuel line material. If your getting good fuel supply, then consider compression/leak down tests and spark plug check/change. Good luck!

it could be as simple as the plastic roller sleeve over your throttle linkage has broken or gone missing so check that first, if not that then a compression test , usually a bad fuel pump will give you a fuel restriction alarm if all that is working properly. give james perry a call in dunlap he will hook you up, if it turns out to be fuel pump, put a holley red top electric on it you wont be disappointed.

check for the plastic roller sleeve on the linkage, then check the compression , make sure to pull the relay on fuel pump as to not pump fuel in motor while checking
