Guys I use to love to fish that was all I thought about. Then about two year ago when gas got so high and entry fee to tournaments went from $50 to a $100
I slowly quit going. Now I hookup my boat on Friday after work and unhook it Sunday evening and it never leaven the yard .So if any of you have even felt
this way got their want to back let me know how you got your want to back so I can get mine back

Ignore the cost and just go out there and just fish and don't worry about nothing. But once you start getting into em again and start really catching em you'll be hooked again

It costs me about 5 bucks in gas some fishing trips, I net bait, fish cut bait, only expense many times is replacing hooks, etc. Just go have fun!!!

I go out fishing to relax and get away from the stress and drama I have to deal with. You can always fish the local afternoon/evening dogfights if you just have to fish tournaments. I'll still fish if gas hits $6.00 a gallon but that's just me. I may have to give up food, donate blood, or sell off other stuff I have...but I'll still fish!

Just go have fun. Try different lakes around the area. There are so many fantastic fisheries within 2 hours. If gas is an issue, then find someone on here to go with you and split the gas. I have more or less completely quit fishing tournaments and just fun fish. Fishing is the only thing in my world that really never stresses me out.

I get charged up by reading the fishing reports. I read about a new bait or new to me technique and I use that as an excuse to go fishing so I can try to make it work for me. I like a challenge and so far, bass fishing is a real challenge for me.

About 15 yr. ago I had a bass boat with a big flipping deck, big motor 30 gal gas tank, ect. I fished a tournament every wk. end. Either one from where I worked or one out of the damn at wattsbar. My wife at the time bitched about the boat, about money I spent on equipment, ect. To make along storry short, I had a heart attack, a brain anruism, divorced my wife, sold everybit of my fishing stuff and quit fishing at all. It had got to where it was like going to work on Mon. morning. About 5yr ago a friend talked me into going trout fishing with him one wk. end and I was hooked just as bad as I had been before. This time though I bought a small 16' boat with a 50hp motor and now I just crappie and cat fish and brim fish with my sons and grand daughter. No pressure, just fun, and to tell the truth, I catch more fish now then I did before. It's hard to catch a fish running 70mph down the river. The only bass I catch is a few that jump on the hook crappie fishing. Slow down and start enjoying fishing again. emoSmile

I have had my ups and downs over the years. When I moved here I had just about given up bass tournament fishing. I went for the fun of it but only fished locally so I did not burn a lot of gas because I did not go far. I got back into it slowly by going with others who were not as familiar with fishing as me and I enjoyed teaching it and showing others. I got excited when they caught something and got excited. Kids are the greatest. Take a kid fishing and share the moment. It takes a lot less to get them going then us. Their expectations are usually not as high. When this bunch started the CFF bass tournaments I was talked back into tournament fishing and slowly caught the bug again. Last year with me doing the Tuesday night tournaments, the CFF tournaments and the CBA tournaments I got a little burned out. This year I dropped doing the Tuesday nighter and only do the CFFs and the CBAs, I may go to one or two others on some times but this way I hope to not get to where it feels like work. I have also cut back on gas due to not going far in these tournaments. If you run a lot you will run up a gas bill. There are fish locally, you just have to find them. emoGrouphug Jmax

Sounds to me like you need to take a kid fishin. Nothing to me is better than fishing with my kids.

Money will suck the fun out of everything, but when you focus on it then it will even take the fun out of things you like to do. My suggestion is to go back to the basics, stop the tournaments and all that and just fish. If your to the point that you feel theirs nothing more to do/learn, do like someone else mentioned and teach others to fish, or change it up and chase a different kind of fish like stripers, or cats ect. I've been teaching my wife and kids what little I know plus trying to learn new things myself, which helped alot, but also take my nephews out too and fish with them some too. You'll get the bug again but you'll have to find what got you started in the first place, and that will help you fish again. Good Luck. emoAngel
