Had on of them days today where you catch so many you loose count! I probably caught around 30-40 at least, all largemouth. Most were small buck bass with a few 2 lbers thrown in there. Seemed like I had one on almost every cast. I was fishing in Richland from 4pm-Dark. Caught them on t-rigged lizards and yellow magic topwaters. Most came from the lizard. They were super shallow around flooded bushes and weeds. I know my arm is sore!emoCool emoBigsmile Also saw a sad sight, an estimate 7-8 lb bass dead floating. Looked like it had just died, still looked fairly fresh. Hated to see that.

Sounds like you had a great day. Were most of the fish in sloughs? When I catch a bunch of small ones in the spring it makes me think about finding the "big mammas" that should be out there too. If the water temp was in the spawning range, I would expect that most of the males were still in prespawn and that the females were somewhere close off shore off some brushpiles or sharp drop. I usually just bask in the sun of catching so many but if I were a tournament junkie I'd be using my electronics to find those "big mammas". Is that what you were thinking? It doesn't sound like those fish were in typical post spawn areas and I would expect a few bigger females mixed in if they were in a post-spawn pattern.
By the way, what's a "yellow magic topwater"? It makes me sad to see a big bass die also, I hope that it hadn't been gill hooked and I hope that it had already spawned. We need more like her around here.

Once I was at Pickwick I saw this bass it just had come up to the water and it was barely moving.(At the Pickwick Landing State Park) So I got my rod and the tip I put in it's mouth and pulled the bass out of the water and, gave a weak fight and it was hard, because I was using the tip of my rod, it weighed 4.86pounds. Anyway great report, i'm fired up and ready to go this weekend!emoHoppingmad

Yes they were in the sloughs. The big ones were probably on the drops but I was having so much fun catching the ones I did. It would have been hard to leave. "Yellow Magic" is the brand of topwater. They are some awesome detailed japanese topwaters. Hand painted. I got mine from Basspro a couple months ago on sale. Here is the link to them: http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=42777&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults

Great Report and I checked out the Japanese top water plug at Bass Pro. Looks good but I'll have to wait till I can catch them on sale againemoRolleyes

I have the same problem. I'd rather just catch a bunch of fish and if they are big that's okay but when the little ones are shallow and easy it's just too much fun for me to spend the time to figure out those big mammas. The pull on the end of the line is just what I'm looking for.
