Thought I'd throw up an early post this week. I fished Wed, Thurs, Fri night, and Sat night with some great people. The Spotted Bass bite continues to improve. Topwater, Spotstickers rigged w/ Big Bite finesse worms, Jerkbaits, and Crankbaits seem to be the best producers for me. I believe that at least half of our fish are still pre-spawn and will do their thing on this full moon so we still have perhaps the largest group of Spots on their way. On Friday night I had the pleasure of fishing the Friday night tournament with Lt Brian Keener of the GA DNR, this was Brian's first tournament in over 10 years. We had multiple opportunities to have a great bag of fish but landing foul hooked fish is always a toss up and unfortunately for us the fish were just slashing at our McSticks and we were one shy of our limit, and lost 5 fish before it got dark. We were however able to land a couple including the big fish of the tournament weighing in at 4.82lbs (Spot). Thanks again Brian and we'll do it again!
The Striper bite has been good and for the most part very consistent for me since March. I was out Saturday night with Ted Farenthold from Snellville, GA. Ted and I targeted Stripers and Hybrids using Spro McSticks and Swimbaits. We covered a ton of water and with the heavy winds were able to fool 8 fish on our trip, 4 Stripers, 3 Hybrids, and a nice Walleye. All fish were released except Mr. Walleye & Ted took him home for Sunday dinner. Ted also lost a few sea monsters we didn't see, again with the treble hooks and big fish, you are gonna lose some nothing you can do about it.
Thanks again CFF for all the support. I have days/nights available if anyone is interested please drop me a line soon! I have days open in May as well.
