Jmax's Homemade Walnut Dressing; I just got finished making this up for tomorrow, mmmmmMMMMMMmmmmm GOOD! Got the whole house smelling like Thanksgiving. Keep feeling my mom will be walking around the corner any time now telling me to get out of "Her" kitchen.
-You will need a pan of yellow cornbread, follow instructions on the bag.
-1/2 loaf of wheat bread. (White bread will work but wheat is better for you.)
-One large onion diced.
-Sage, about a tablespoon or two rounded.
-Celery, two stalks diced.
-Salt and pepper to taste. Not more then a couple tablespoons. (I use "No Salt", it is better for you.)
-A stick of butter. (No salt)
-A cup and a half of Chicken broth. (Fat free/low sodium, it is better for you.)
-Two large cups of walnuts crushed.
Mix all dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Hold out one of the cups of walnuts. Break up the corn bread and bread so it mixes easier. Once it is mixed well take the stick of butter and heat it up so that it is melted. Mix the melted butter with the broth. Now pour the broth with the butter into the dry mixture until it is moist and the dressing will stick together fairly well. I call it medium moist. Transfer the mixture into a baking dish and take the cup of walnuts you held out and spread over the mixture. Lightly press the walnuts into the dressing on top. Bake it at 350 until top of the nuts are brown and the dressing is now done, usually about 30 minute.
Don't over cook it because it will be dry. I also like to make some giblet gravy to go on top with cranberry sauce on the side. emoHungry PIG OUT!
