Which lower unit lube/oil do you use? Where do you buy your oil? Where can I buy a pump fitting that I can pump my oil into my lower unit?

Call Glen Gamble at 622-5450. He's located on Bonny Oaks Accross the bridge from Govenors Lounge (currently Club Pheonix). He'll drain and refill your gear oil in the parking lot for a nominal fee. Just call ahead to make sure he's not elbow deep in a power head, and tell him Churly sent ya!

My bad dude my brain was else where! I fixed it. He's right off of 153 down the hill from Jacks bait and tackle next to the bridge.

I use what the manufacturer recommends. Read the owners manual it should tell you what the specs for the lower gear lube should be. Also I bought my pump attachment at Walmart. I just recently serviced my lower unit and as I was buying the oil in automotive I saw the pump kit at the Walmart in Kimball, Tn. Much cheaper than going to a boat mechanic. Just make sure you drain all the oil by removing both screws and look at the oil to make sure it's not milky. If the lube is milky in color then you have a lower unit leak and needs to be fixed pronto. To Fill hook the pump up to the lower drain connection and fill till it runs out the top air vent. Let it set for a hour or two to make sure you have no air bubbles in the lower unit and that they have come to the top. Fill till it runs out the vent and put the vent screw in first and then the fill screw last. Hope this helps.

Well, you just had three of the best fisherman on the planet reply to you. With SOLID advice.... can't imagine a much better result than that my man...

Bass and Walleye boats tested lower unit lubes last month and the best three were Mercury High Performance, Yamalube, and Evinrude. For your motor just about any will work fine. Get the pump at Walmart as suggested above.

I used to use Pennzoil in my other motors, but my new motor (Suzuki) came with a quart of "Suzuki" oil. Next year I am going with either Royal Purple or Amsoil all around. I wanted to use dinosaur oil through the first change. LU oil is not that special, heck I have used Walmart oil in other motors. I've always been told its more important to stick with the same brand of oil more than which brand you use.

Most every boat dealer carries some kind of lower unit oil, You just have to get the one your manual calls for. And as for the pump you can find a cheap one at wal-mart it use to come with some off brand oil.

Not to burst anyones bubble...But you do know that fluids are rated by foam and expansion rate right?? Pick up a bottle of "Marine" 75-90 synthetic and you will see it has a rating of API GL-5 then go pick up a bottle of "AUTOMOTIVE" 75-90 synthetic fluid and look at the ratings. API GL-5. Same weight/ same ratings. I read in a old mercury manual (don't even remember which one) to use the automotive fluid cause it was the same thing. It specified it had to be the same rating. Fluids have came real far since then. Anyone remeber using automotive oil in their gas cause there was not a "OUTBOARD" oil? I have built many Lower units used "automotive" fluid. I always show the customers and give them the choice. Only had 1 to choose "marine". NEVER had any problems. Why pay 3 times as much for a bottle to say "MARINE" when the contains the same fluid??? That would be like saying oil that Mopar sells is totally different from what Quakerstate makes even though it is the same weight. I run it in my own lowers..... Just my 2 cents worth.
